PhotoArchival Posted August 4, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I found an old(?) Leitz filter that fits the Lux 1.4/50 asph lens. LHSA/MP-3 version It also allows me the use of the lens hood #12586 on top of it. The guy who was helping me out said they do not make them anymore..? He thinks they were for the original lux's. The engravings on the chrome is GERMANY on one side, and E.Leitz - U.S.A. - SL on the other (NO serial #) Does SL stand for skylight? It does not appear to have a color cast on white paper and if any a very very very slight yellow. There is 2 rings (one a retainer) both threaded, that sandwiches the glass in place. The glass looks very good/no scratches that I can detect but doesn't appear to be coated! Could it have been replaced and it is not leica glass? What is a reasonable price? he is asking $125 u.s.d. Is this guy pulling my chain? Not collecting and I plan to use it for reasons of my own... so no judging please;) I could not take a photo of it, so if anyone has something similar you can post it. Thanks in advance for any help.
Advertisement Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Hi PhotoArchival, Take a look here Letiz 43mm filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ivar B Posted August 4, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2007 I think that $125 is excessive for such an old filter - I see them for sale for about half that price now and then. There is one out on eBay now with no bids - item nr. 280138125664. I also have the MP3 LHSA with 50/1.4 ASPH and what I did was to buy an old Leica filter, then remove the glass (which is easy) and then cut open a B + W MRC 43mm UV (which has much better coating and is easier to clean) and then installed the glass in the Leica mount. Opening the B + W takes a little effort as you need to cut the ring, but the Leica filter ring can easily be unscrewed and nothing is damaged. I believe that other forum members have also mentioned that coating on the old Leica filters is not good and may have a quite severe impact, and replacing it with new glass may be worthwile. The problem is that in my experience you need a Leica filter mount as all other makes are too thick and the hood will not mount properly.
