dkCambridgeshire Posted October 6, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The Omega Seamaster 300 'dive watch' models originated c.1957 - a little later than the 1953 Blancpain 50 fathoms and the 1954 Rolex Submariner dive watches. However, Omega Seamaster 300 dive watches proved very popular with professional divers and it's still in production today - but with different movements. Vintage Seamaster 300 dive watches are very collectible but because demand exceeds supply there are many, many fakes listed for sale - particularly on auction sites. I acquired a vintage customised 'PVD finish' Seamaster 300 15 years ago from a trusted seller so was fairly sure the internals were genuine. The proof of authenticity is in the case and the movement - so today the back was removed for the first time to check its credentials … and document same using my favourite notebook camera i.e. a Leica C Type 112. The 1968 Vintage Seamaster 300 with custom bezel insert and modern c. 2000 Omega back rubber strap. The Rolex case knife in the background was used to sharpen a matchstick. The 'pointy' matchstick was then used to compress the strap's springbars enabling strap removal without scratching the case lugs' PVD finish. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! With caseback removed the movement's credential's are visible i.e. 24 jewel Omega Caliber 565, serial number 27957XXX … which can be cross referenced to several date of manufacture matrices to prove its 1968 year of manufacturer / assembly. The missing original paperwork would also prove the YOM. It's also possible to send photos to Omega in Switzerland and pay for an 'extract from the archives' which would detail actual month of sale and maybe also the original dealer. However, Omega might not cooperate and provide the info. because this particular example has been customised by IWW in USA, i.e. International Watch Works. IWW specialises in servicing and customising collectible watches … including custom bezel inserts and black PVD finishes. cont'd ... dkCambridgeshire Posted October 6, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) And the wrist shots … which show that its quite possible to take 'handheld one-handed' close-up photos when using the Leica C 112 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Worthwhile exercise to prove the customised 1968 Seamaster 300 watch has an original case and movement. The lume was re-applied when IWW serviced and customised the watch. The dial is also 'original' … it has the correct fonts and the date window has the correct 'frame'. Some might not appreciate customised vintage Omega watches - but they hold their value better than e.g. digital cameras. Best wishes dunk Edited October 6, 2019 by dkCambridgeshire
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! prk60091 Posted October 6, 2019 Share #8 Posted October 6, 2019 Love the watch ( I have an old 'Connie' - but really enjoy your Seamaster and the quality of the images. Great series. Just the thing I wanted to view on a lazy Sunday.
