I just had the 'estimate' for redressing the leather coating on my 'S'. Apparently that work will be carried out for free under warranty but the sensor needs an 'adjustment' for which the bill will be £395.

Quite how or why a 14 month old camera needs a sensor adjustment or what indeed that even is, is beyond me. Anyone got any clues?

I would have my dealer fight the charge.  Ridiculous.

It seems to be Leica’s thing now, charging for unspecified adjustments. I suffered two of those when sending in (two different) S 007 bodies for rearmoring. Others have reported similarly here—eg the vague “impact damage”

You can press for an explanation. I doubt you’ll get anywhere but maybe you can try harder than I did.

But I’ll say GBP 395 is pretty gentle.

When I turn my 006 on it states on the rear screen "Lens firmware update available". Can I do this with my 006? I've tried holding in the Back button when I turn it on but nothing happens.

For any newbies out there - like me - this is what you do to update the lens firmware (on a 006, anyway). This is from a Customer Service rep at Leica:-

The 006 needs the latest firmware. If you don´t have the latest firmware, please update your camera first.

Once that's done, turn off the camera, take the SD card out and put the lens on the camera.

You then press the joystick (AF/AE lock) and hold it down while you turn the camera on again. Since there isn´t an SD card inside the camera, the camera will write the firmware update onto the lens.

Here's the Service History of my 30mm Elmarit having its Auto Focus motor changed. Not too shabby - and certainly not the several months that I feared from reading other people's experiences on here.
