Not much of a car culture to speak of here, therefore I had to find something else of interest. Fortunately, there's a very active vintage plane community here and once a year, usually on the hottest weekend of late summer, dozens of increasingly rare & precious WWII planes from around the country gather here to display, fly, chat....... and let old men enjoy & remember

It's amazing the memories these things evoke when I see & hear them in the air - takes me back to the final phase of the war, when we lived in Vienna, AUS.- when many of these planes could be seen overhead pretty much anytime during daylight hours.

All taken with the SL and the wonderful, exceptional 16-35  & 90-280 zoom lenses

Thanks for looking,

Freshly restored and displayed only last year, this beautifully sorted P-47 flew on several occasions this time around................what an impressive machine.

An earlier version of the P-47, before it was redesigned with greater range, power and the 'bubble' canopy.

P-51-D, very much as it would have appeared as a bomber escort over Germany in the latter part of the war.
