Kodachrome vs PKR

PKR is the "professional"(P)version of Kodachrome 64(KR) that has been separated at the time of mfg. by Kodak from the normal product flow and set aside, under refrigeration or "controlled conditions", so that photographers who don't want the 'new KR magenta cast' will be able to have as neutral a color balance as possible. You'd get the same thing if you bought KR, set it aside for perhaps 6-9 months at room temperature before using it. Kodak merely "pre-ages"it for you(and charges you more money as well.) I always shot PKM(Kodachrome 25 Pro.) to avoid the green cast I'd usually get with the fresh, unaged consumer product(KM.) Is there really only one lab in the world that processes Kodachrome now?

The short answer is , no difference.

As stated, PKR is kept under temperature control. At one time E films did come with data about the lot and filter/exposure guidelines for the praticular lot. I don't ever remember any K film consumer or not with that information.

A Pro on a job requireing 100's of rolls of K might have shot and analyzed a roll of the lot in the past but that is not possible in your cace and the variation is simply not something you would ever notice anyway.

The price differential today leads me to purchase K64 and K200 bricks and keep frozen until needed rather than PKR.

BTW K200 is gone also and my expectation is that K64 and PKR will shortly follow.-Dick
