Advertisement Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 Hi Photoman61, Take a look here Leica Q2 Panorama Mode. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jared Posted August 26, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2019 Honestly? I haven’t spent any time with the panorama mode. My iPhone does too good a job with this sort of thing for me to want to use the Q. Not an excuse for Leica, of course. It should work just as well on the Q as it does on the iPhone.
BXL Gotham Posted August 29, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2019 Well it should but the entire theory behind the iPhone approach is stitching and they’re stitching a far lower resolution file so if you think you need a steady hand to shoot a single frame of 47MP then imagine what the software has to do with a panorama, even with OIS helping. leicameech Posted September 1, 2019 Share #4 Posted September 1, 2019 That is choppy! I've always found performance of the panorama mode on the original Q has been somewhat choppy as well. It appears the Q2 is not too different. A tripod with the level gauge on in live view would yield best results. In the instance you're shooting panoramas hand-held, you'd be better off shooting normally (not in panorama mode) and stitching photos together in Lightroom or other software on the computer after the fact. I understand this is not exactly a solution to the problem you're having, but it does offer some advantages: Extreme precision is not as critical, provided there's a fair amount of overlap (25-30% ish) between the images you shoot. You can shoot all images in DNG, which allows you the potential to do more with them (editing-wise). Even if you don't shoot in DNG or don't edit, Lightroom or other editing software does a much better job, generally speaking, stitching photos together than iPhone software does (and apparently the Q/Q2 software too..) When you shoot in panorama mode on the Q2 (or the Q or any other Leica that has a panorama mode), you are getting only a jpeg file (even if the camera is set to shoot only in DNG). That means that if you're unhappy with the result you have no choice but to live with it or delete it. If you shoot multiple exposures, you can use them as single images as well or stitch less of them together than you originally captured. Most, if not all, of the picture modes (panorama, portrait, nighttime etc.) that are not PASM mode (Program, Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority, Manual) output only in jpeg format. When you take the information the Q2 is capable of capturing and compress it and apply a fancy mode to it (shooting a jpeg and relying on in-camera software to stitch photos together), you're taking a risk on the result, which contains only a small fraction of the original information captured by the image sensor. cliffs: don't use the panorama mode without a tripod, or if you don't have a tripod, shoot the best panorama you can hand-held while not in panorama mode and stitch the images together using post-processing software
Pelu2010 Posted February 16, 2022 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2022 Hey, I do this manually and this works quite good. I did make one or two with the panorama function, but to me with seemed to be very slow. I just find it faster to make the shots in single or just burst mode and then compile them myself. I would find it helpful to have the option of compiling them in camera when I am done though. This would be very nice. I habe phases where I shot and then when I rest and think. In this time the came can do its magic. kind regards Peter Welcome, dear visitor! mikegml Posted February 18, 2022 Share #6 Posted February 18, 2022 (edited) I do tons of stitched photos with the Q2 and other cameras. I never use any 'pano' mode with any camera. Just overlap your images generously (they're free remember) rotating the camera with the lens being as still as possible. By that I mean imagine a really long nail going through the lens vertically into the ground. I have pano' arms but for 90% of shots outdoors it's not needed. Don't use any burst mode either, just slowly click your shots off one by one as tho' they are individual shots. Stitch together with microsoft ICE (image composite editor) it's free and works great. I have fancy decicated apps but ICE does pretty much everything they do fast. https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj-hZ7PLSrHbgt1ZzNrK8-6nvAAl4g?e=ysqdGP Edited February 18, 2022 by mikegml
Jagganatha Posted May 29, 2023 Share #7 Posted May 29, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) So Far I am unable to find ANY panorama pics made in panorama mode with a Q2 online. I have searched for hours, because I want to know what they are like, and because I am trying to find what their maximum height can be, assuming you pan with the camera frame as you do to take a vertical photograph.. Help!!
WeiterWinkel Posted May 29, 2023 Share #8 Posted May 29, 2023 (edited) This is a freehand pano, made from 6 single shots in portrait orientation with a Q2M, stitched in LR Classic 12.3 (17219x8260 pixel). Budfox Posted May 29, 2023 Share #9 Posted May 29, 2023 The Q2M does not have pano mode (or any of the special modes for some reason). Lr might be better in any case as per above.
ianforber Posted May 30, 2023 Share #10 Posted May 30, 2023 I always take multiple shots and stitch them together later but, to help the discussion, here’s a panorama taken with the Q2 built in mode. I just stuck my head out of my front door so don’t expect anything of merit! Welcome, dear visitor! Ozymandias Posted May 30, 2023 Share #11 Posted May 30, 2023 It would appear that the new Q3 no longer as a panorama mode, unlike its Q2 predecessor. Paul
Einzelganger Posted October 16, 2023 Share #12 Posted October 16, 2023 I can confirm the Q3 does not have panorama mode. It's too bad because I often had better pano results with the Q2 than I did with the iPhone.
