teehas53 Posted July 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can one of you owners out there tell me which lines your 21mm Elmarit Asph triggers? I'm looking to replace the mount on my Zeiss 21/2.8, and I seem to remember that it needs the 28 mount (plus coding) to be read as a 21 Elmarit Asph. Also, anyone in the US found a resource for replacement Zeiss mounts? I'm having trouble locating one - no answer at all from Zeiss USA... T
Advertisement Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Hi teehas53, Take a look here 21mm Elmarit Asph & frame lines?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted July 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2007 The 21mm Elmarit triggers the 28 and 90 frame lines. You can successfully use a 21 without an external finder if you keep in mind there's a generous margin around what you see in the main finder. T There are NO 21mm frame lines so what does it matter what lines are brought up by the Ziess or Leica 21mm lens. Or am I missing something here. I have a CV Skopar 21 f/4 and I find if I use the whole viewfinder it is pretty close. Not sure what framelines come up with the CV lens, never really bothered to look. I have hand coded it and one body reads it and the other doesn't, go figure, irrespective of the framelines that the lens mount brings up.
hdrmd Posted July 31, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2007 If one does not wear glasses, the entire area in the viewfinder is about the same as the 21 field. Not exact, but close, and with instant replay of digital, it works for me most of the time. DR
teehas53 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted July 31, 2007 Thanks guys, I get the part about using the finder field without lines to approximate the field of view of a 21. My question relates to the fact that to get the M8 to recognize a hand-coded lens, it has to detect the same frameline triggering that the comparable Leica lens activates. The black & white dots alone are not enough. The 21mm Biogon does not trigger the proper framelines, hence making hand-coding impossible. I know I read somewhere a discussion about people changing Zeiss mounts to correct this problem (the Zeiss 25 has the same problem on the M8.) Now that I know the Elmarit brings up 28/90 lines, I will try to get my hands on a 28mm Zeiss mount... T
carstenw Posted August 1, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 1, 2007 Make sure the screw holes are in the same locations before buying.
