You may find you get on better with Lightzone at: Introduction to LightZone from Light Crafts

It uses a zone sytem to make adjustments, and once you see how it all works it all becomes very intuitive. Worth a try anyway, and there is a trial available before you buy.

Hi, I'm a proud Leica CM owner - I love it and don't plan to be parted from it, it takes lovely pictures.

 

I'm looking to buy a digital camera and since they don't do a digital CM I'm drawn to the D-Lux 3, I can't afford the Digilux 3 which is too damn big anyway. Some of the reviews of the D-Lux 3 are really good but a lot of reviews I've seen suggest that the noise is a bit of a killer. What are people's views? Would I be better off buying a different compact? Saving up a bit more and buying the V-Lux? Finding a good condition Digilux 2? Waiting for the Sigma DP-1 to be released one day?

The DLux 3 is a very fine camera and you will be happy with the results. It is one fo the few small digital PS cameras that allows shooting in RAW, which to me is critical for critical work. As for noise, the noise at higher ISOs is there but reasonably easily dealt with (to the extent you want to to deal with it) in software (I use Noise Ninja). I would prefer a viewfinder to the screen for composing but one adapts pretty easily. Now don;t get me wrong. I would not swap my DLux 3 for the M8 or even for my 5D, but as a pocket /travel camera it is terrific.
