Good evening,

I am coming from M240 + Nocti and just got my Q2 and working my way through settings and reading manual.  I did see a few good videos on youtube from Mathphotographer and welcome any other similar links on most common 'settings'-- waiting for Overgaard's master class book soon which I ordered, I find his recommended settings work for me as well.   I don't like to have the LCD screen on constantly in 'live view' (like on M) unless I push a button (and request it)--- I don't need the info unless I want it. My LCD comes on all the time and unless I am daft (my wife would say yes of course)  I don't see how to set LCD to "off" and then push one of the buttons to turn LCD on or off.  Much like I don't use live view often on the M, but at least I had a button to quickly turn on or off (live view) when I want to use focus peeking for example.

I did manage to program the button and thumbwheel for quick adjustment for ISO though. And perhaps it would be nice to have a quick way to switch from spot to center weighted focusing or exposure quickly.

I used to use my Canon 5d2 by partially depressing shutter release to lock metering (spot or center weighted) then recompose  (for example off center) and refocus and shoot.  What are the best settings to do this-- I am trying to figure out how to use focus lock  and meter lock (or not) but not seeming to get this. I look to shoot subject(s)  'off center' and don't want to touch the LCD and move the focus point, hence my 'technique' of partially depress, set metering, recompose, refocus (all while the shutter button partially depressed) then shoot.

Forgive the 'newbie' questions-- the simplicity of the M is what I have been using for 6 years but wanted to add auto-focus for moments (forthcoming children's weddings) and grandkids...my lovely old Digilux2 was great, but wanted to get a more modern autofocus option.

Many thanks

EVF Extended will keep the LCD off except for menu operations and photo PLAY - I'll probably use that mode once I have gotten more used to the camera, but right now having the info on the LCD is helpful.  The other thing I have not found out how to do with EVF Extended is Center the Focus field.  A double-tap on the LCD will do it, but how in the EVF?

If you want the LCD always OFF, set Display for EVF.  I think it would be a drag to have to use the menus in the EVF.

Customize the FN button for other quick changes:  A long press and hold will bring up the choices (Meter Mode, Scene Mode, Self-Timer, etc.) after it is set, then a short press will let you choose your setting.  It's handy.

AEL / AFL can be programmed to the small, nearly invisible button below the shutter speed dial.  You have to press and hold this button after either focusing or metering or both to lock in and then recompose.  As soon as you release the button it reverts to normal AE/AF behavior.

Read the manual on customizing, play around with the features, read the survey post on AEL/AFL behavior - you'll get it going in a day or so.
