This happened on the weekend. During the three months or so that I have been using the S1-R it has performed beautifully, until yesterday.

When I turned it on the display lit up as usual but nothing responded to button selection. It was frozen completely. I tried to turn it off but it continued to show all the information on the display.

When I removed the battery it then shut down. The same thing happened numerous times. I noticed a message suggesting that there was no memory card in the camera so I put a new one in, but there was no change. I changed lenses, and batteries but again nothing worked. I was beginning to think that the body had to go back to the manufacturer which was a depressing thought.

I remembered that two days earlier I had taken the 90-280 out of the bag and mounted it on the body to shoot some exterior shots. It was extremely humid outdoors, even in the early evening, and since the lens had been in an air conditioned house, the lens filter immediately developed condensation. The next morning I took camera and body outside again and the filter displayed once again some minor condensation. I took shoots and then downloaded to my computer. There was still evidence of condensation from the evening and the morning shoot.

Remembering all this I removed the memory card from the body yesterday and put the camera, with the open card door open, under a light where it remained for 30 minutes or so.

When I reinserted the card and turned on the camera, once again it worked perfectly.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. The body is supposed to be able to resist moisture.

Memory card contacts are a well known rare cause of trouble.

I doubt if moisture has got into the camera through any of the seals, but condensation of existing moisture within the camera may have interfered with one of the card contacts. Was is SD or XQD ?

I suspect it was a one off issue due to an unusual set of circumstances.

I’ve just spent a week using mine in pretty grim weather where it was soaked in heavy rain for long periods with no problem.
