crlong Posted June 14, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I’m hoping someone can help with this or at least help me feel like I’m not going nuts. (I had a Q which I loved but sold when I upgraded so I don’t have both a Q and Q2 to compare settings.) I use autofocus. I have the focus setting set to AF-S. And the shooting mode in the slower continuous setting. When I took photos on the Q in a series, I would use center point focus on the subject, 1/2 press the shutter, re-compose, and then fully press the shutter. The original q would then take several photos in a series and hold my chosen focus point correctly. On the Q2, when I try to do this in continuous photo mode, the camera takes photo #1 with proper focus that I selected before I re-framed. But between photo #1 and #2, the camera searches for center focus again. So unless I happen to be in a situation where I’m not reframing, all photos after the first image are out of focus. has anyone else experienced this? I’m sure many other people use autofocus in a similar way. Anything settings wise I’m doing wrong? Thanks for the help!
Advertisement Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 Hi crlong, Take a look here Q2 re-composing / focus issue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
zampelis Posted June 14, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2019 (edited) There are chances that your shutter button is faulty. You need to contact your local dealer. I had the same problem on my Q and ended up replacing my camera.. When did you buy yours? Maybe if you just bought it you can go to your dealer and swap it with another one? Also does the behaviour change when you turn a bit the shutter button? Mine was working properly on specific placements of the shutter button but was malfunctioning most of the time. I am not sure if the newer shutter buttons of the Q-P and Q2 can freely turn like the older ones. Here is a video demonstrating the behaviour. crlong Posted June 14, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted June 14, 2019 Thank you, I really appreciate this comment above but I don’t think that’s quite my issue. I focus, half-press, and reframe and it holds that center focus point correctly for the first photo every time. But before it takes the second photo in the series (as I’m still holding down the button to take multiple photos), the camera feels the need to refocus on what’s in the center of the frame again whether I want it to or not. I’m hoping I have some setting wrong. I never remember this being an issue I had on the original q. Let me know if I need to provide more clarity bc it’s hard to explain. hdmesa Posted June 21, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 21, 2019 Sounds like a firmware glitch with the Q2. Report it to Leica so they can fix it.
jayseejay Posted June 22, 2019 Share #5 Posted June 22, 2019 Crlong, I just tried to reproduce your issue with my Q2. Using all the steps you described, my Q2 did not refocus unless and until I let the shutter button come all the way back up, no matter how many shots I took. I’ve tried to think whether there are any settings you may be overlooking. The only thing I can think of is, if you are using focus tracking mode, the camera will continue to refocus between shots, even if the camera is set to AF-S. Maybe you have it set to focus tracking? Best of luck, Joe

Everyframecounts Posted December 1, 2019 Share #8 Posted December 1, 2019 I have the same issue as the topic starter. Have you had any luck fixing this? Have tried to communicate with leica about this issue but with the worst customer service ever have had no support from their side. This issue makes a perfect camera pretty much useless. I have had several q2’s to triy this out with and all suffer the same problem. Seem to to be firmware flaw.
