So the belive that UV Filters are necessary was/is a hoax?
is this only on Leica lenses or on all brand lenses?

Chris

Digital cameras have a glass cover plate over the sensor to protect the sensor and filter UV light.
PetaPixel has a thorough explanation here to explain it.

I do use a B+W XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter on my lenses for protection but many believe this could degrade the image.

I’d rather clean smudges or small bits of dirt off a filter than off the front element of the lens. Over time my filters get small scratches and nicks. I don’t know how, but they do. I always use the hood. Still, when I look at them carefully , they are no longer pristine after a year or two. I replace them then. My lens front element stays pristine. It’s only rarely cleaned and very gently.

Absolutely correct! I may should get the B+W 49mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter and start to use it as i often shoot on the beach.

However, in 40 years of Photography and about 100k photos with a lot of different cameras i never scratched or damaged a front lens.
But this does not exclude that i will sooner or later and the Q2 would be a pitty and very expensive to replace this wonderful lens.
