quick rangefinder adjustments

Hi everybody,

I´ve received so many good advices through this forum. Here is one thing I´d like to contribute.

Frequently I needed rangefinder adjustment concerning backfocus or frontfocus at my M8. A friend told me how it can be done by oneselfs. I got sick of driving to Leica or sending them the camera.

You can see it in the picture. With this tool (sorry don´t konw the english word but you should recognize it) you can do it within a few minutes by yourself. Today I had again a backfocus problem. I figured out the rf was out of mesure at infinity, and also at a closer distance. So I´ve just screwed it with the tool a little bit into left direction and the rf was fine at Infinity and also at closere distances. You just have to try it, take a picture of a meter with different distances and the you have it.

My friend told me this is new at the rf system with the M8 it could not be done with older M cameras. I´m not sure if this is a weak point or just great. Maybe because of this new thing the M8 is out of focus so often, but in opposite if you´re as a pros in the middle of nowhere you can just fix it yourself and go back to work, which is simply great.

all best

Frank

Hello Frank,

your description is good, but there have been several threads here in the past about this. It is also possible to do the adjustment with film Ms, but you need a slim flathead screwdriver for those cameras, rather than the 2mm Allen key needed for the M8.
