I asked RRS this question via the contact page some days ago. They told me that the L-bracket is in the design phase and I shall lokk for it at the RRS web page in some weeks.

Great news. I asked them three weeks ago and the information was that it is (currently) not planned to offer a plate or L-bracket. So they changed their mind.

For the time beeing, I use a BP-CS

If you look at the bottom of the camera, producing a neat custom fitted baseplate like the SL looks to be a bit more of a challenge at the battery compartment end .....

This is the best I have found ...... it's a Chinese copy of an Arca Swiss, but is actually a very good quality product and ridiculously cheap considering.

It has the advantage that being easily 'telescopic' - via the levers under each section - you can access the connectors on the left easily and it also doesn't occlude the remote socket top left (remove the stop screw so the vertical section sits lower).

Came in under a week from China. I now have 2. The second required some very slight tweaking to ensure the bend was precisely 90 degrees, but otherwise I cannot fault them. I also ground off the side projections on the base that hold a rubber insert that you can store an allen key in ...... they seem a bit unnecessary to me.

Does anyone know if there is an L Bracket available for the S1R?  I looked at RRS and could not find one.

Thanks in advance

Greg

Hi Greg,

I ordered here: https://bombofoto.com/search?type=product&q=Panasonic+s1r

It‘s planned to be available midth of May for about 70$ without shipping. They seems to be very customer oriented and are responding fast.

Looks promising ...... I just hope the dovetail is a genuine Arca Swiss profile .... which is the one area where 3rd party brackets tend to fail to make the grade.

The RRS L bracket appeared today ...... nice and compact/light and fits well.

There is a gap in the 'L' bit to allegedly access the posts on side for charging etc but no way to flip them open except with a small object you can shove under the plate to push the opening tab ...... unless you have very long nails ...... otherwise you have to loosen and slide the plate.

The remote release post is unobstructed.

I have the Bombo version arriving tomorrow so it will be a 3 way fight off between iSpot, RRS and Bombo ...... ;)

The Bombo retailed 'Stabil' L bracket is very similar to the RRS version for the SL and covers the whole camera base and has an extendable L section to access the ports on the left. It looks nice and is very well made.

Unfortunately it DOES NOT FIT ! ....... clearly they have never tried it on a final retail camera before they put it into production. When tightened in place there is a clear tilt as the right end clearly doesn't abut closely to the body profile ..... and there is no way to get the battery door open as it catches on part of the bracket. There is no slot in the base for the fixation screw, just a single hole, so there is no lateral adjustment at all. Basically it's useless so DO NOT BUY IT.  Returning it to Vietnam for a refund of 65 euros is not worth the effort/aggravation or the postage cost so it will end up in the photo accessories graveyard in my workshop.

The iSpot Arca Swiss knock-off is the clear winner for practicality, price and easy access of the various ports, but the RRS is 50% lighter, more compact and less obtrusive, although accessing the ports and lifting the rear screen is a bit more of a fiddle.

As I'm a bit of a sucker for looks and aesthetics it's the RRS that is staying on the camera for now.

For those interested in this very exciting saga and subject ......

I have had an email today from Bombo (unsolicited) acknowledging the L Bracket does not fit.

They have a new version that they will send me, unless I would like to return the old one for a refund.

As you can never have enough camera accessories I have asked them to mail me Mk II.

I'll let you know what this one is like when it appears in a few weeks.

Same happend to me. But I modified the bracket already with file, saw and black paint. Now it fits like hand-made shoes 😀 For that I keep my copy, even if the side part still needs improvement.

Would be interested how the 2. try works...
