Viewfinder window question

Today I just received my M8 back from Lecia USA for the "shutter fault" error . However, the viewfinder window seems to be different. If you look at the viewfinder window from the front, there used to be 2 silver strips (one at the top edge and one at the bottom one). Now they are completely gone. Does anyone know if this is something new? I hope they didn't just forget to put them back.

Hi,

I have just checked mine and can confirm that two horizontal strips, silver in colour, appear when the viewfinder is viewed externally, one at the top and one at the bottom.

I do hope that you do not have to return your M8.

Mine have the strips - they're actually silvering deposited on the glass and not a separate part as such. I seem to remember the bottom one being there to increase the contrast of the viewfinder display but I may be wrong.

The self-timer LED shines through the top one; can you see the LED clearly even when it's not operating?

When I took an M8 apart, in spite of wearing latex gloves, I managed to get finger prints on the inside of the glass and they were difficult to clean and I was worried the silvering was going to come off. Does make me wonder what's happened in your case.

That is why I have this question. The silver strps were there before I sent the camera in for service. They did not mention anything about working on the viewfinder. The paperwork only stated 'repair transport mechanism'. I will give them a call tomorrow.
