I've read other posts about the eventual geotagging function in the Leica FOTOS app. I intend to use the Q2 as a travel/all purpose camera and had a few questions about the implementation of this feature so I called a Leica store (USA).

The Leica specialist seemed very knowledgeable and said that no implementation date is yet announced (no surprise),  but he threw me for a loop when he said the geotagging is "uni-directional".  From our conversation my understanding is that if the Q2 is connected to the FOTOS app than any pictures transferred over to the FOTOS app will be geotagged using the phones GPS.  He said the FOTOS app does not "synch" with the camera and "push" the GPS data into the metadata embedded in the photo file.

If my understanding is correct that means that ONLY pictures transferred over to the FOTOS app will have embedded GPS data. In my mind that's a significant limitation to the functionality of the GPS feature. I was hoping that the FOTOS app was "bi-directional" and would "push" and embed the GPS data into the picture file so that when I later view the pictures on my PC/MAC the geotagging info would be embedded into the file on the SD card. I do not want to have to xfer hundreds of huge photo files into the clunky FOTOS app just to get geotagging.

I understand there are "work arounds" for geotagging but my question is directed to the more tech savvy users on this forum whether the explanation offered by a Leica specialist makes sense?
