The fix that’s supposed to be permanent wasn’t announced until April, 2017, long after the 70 and other lenses were initially produced.

Any lens could have since been sent in for service. A reputable dealer, like Leica Miami, will provide service information.

My 70mm CS focus motor broke, and was then serviced by Leica, this was AFTER they said to have a permanent solution. It has now been working great since.

I don’t know if there is a typical amount of use for this lens as it is the standard, most common one for the system I would think. There are also versions with and without the Central Shutter. I use mine much more than any other lens on all of the systems in studio photography. Most often 500 to 1000+ exposure in a half day.  A couple of times a month. Perhaps that is more than typical?

Mine developed the AF defect, which was repaired for free and I got excellent support from Leica in Australia.

I have to report that the Central Shutter then failed a few months later. I had thought the first repair meant a new warranty on the whole lens. It did not and this was an expensive repair.

Yesterday not quite a year from when I got it back the second time, the Central Shutter just failed again mid shoot. Next will be a dispute on the exact repair warranty period as there are weeks of course between actual repair date in Wetzlar and receipt of lens back to me .

I bet that has been frustrating and time consuming.
