St. Michaelis*, one of the main churches in town, Julius Faulwasser 1907-1912 to replace the 2nd St. Michaels, which burned down in 1906 after . The current church is a rather modern steel and concrete construction while keeping the basic lines of the 2nd St. Michaelis.

The 2nd St. Michaelis was also used by Johann Friedrich Benzenberg to demonstrate the rotation of Earth in 1802 by dropping lead balls and measuring their deviation from the perpendicular path.

Nice shot.  Have seen many photos of Herzog and de Meuron's building but never in context like this. It's much bigger than I expected. Thanks for posting.
