In 2019, the same issues are seen, but with a twist.

I have a similar predicament between the 21 SEM &  21 LUX and having a hard time justifying the extra cost but ... We all want things we cannot have, its part of human nature I am sure. BUT, I have a Leica SL, there is a wide range of new lenses coming my way in the sort of near future including a 21 CRON-SL f/2.0 w/auto focus some time in the next year or possibly two.

Not to mention the L Alliance, where the Art lenses are to come into the picture, sometime this year with an offering from Sigma 20mm f/1.8 ART lens. Filters look to be a bitch as well but I am more looking for a lens for low light use anyway, inside churches and low light street.

1. Would you pickup the gently used LUX and a better than new price, satisfies low light and GAS

2. Pickup a new SEM. having a hard time spending that much on a F/3.4 lens though

3. Wait for the offering from Sigma, the infamous ART lens in L mount (won't break the bank at all)

4. Wait for the real deal, 21-SL f/2 CRON which I am sure will be a real winner at $7k+ here in Canada.

Thanks for your valuable input,

I have the SEM and Lux - I use the Lux mostly on the SL (where it is very good also in terms of look and ergonomics) and the SEM on the M (especially when doing landscape or as part of a kit). That said, when I go out with one lens only and feel like a 21, I usually pick up the Lux, which is also a great performer on the Monochrome. I admire the qualities of the SEM, it is surpringing how much performance can be had from such a diminutive lens, but would not say that I love it

Like you, I am also looking at the 21 SL cron and will have to sell one of the two when it comes around, but would not be surprised if in the end I was to decide to keep the Lux (even for the M). I also do not find it that heavy, and it balances very well. Also I know that there is some variation from official weights, but my version is lighter than the official weight so that adds to the temptation to keep it.

I would go for 1 and evaluate your options when the 21 Sl comes out (which at this rate may take a couple of years)

The Sigma Arts are much lower in price but really enormous in dimension. Look at the data sheet. There is a 1.4 /20 for Sony E-mount: weight 1050 g and length 155,8 mm!!

Not for me 👎
