jmahto Posted March 29, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried the latest LR enhance feature which claims to using all the latest buzzwords like machine learning etc. I can certainly see that it works in resolving pixel level details.....BUT.... I find it noticeable only when there is fine text where I know what fine details should look like. If I try it on anything else (like fine tree branches) then the effect is not noticeable (normal sharpening is good enough). Certainly if you are printing/viewing at larger than 100% pixel level then I find it either useful or doing no harm. Anyone else tried it? See below. Full picture and center zoomed in 400%. Keith (M) Posted March 29, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2019 I had not paid any attention the 'Enhance' function until reading your post. Just tried it out on a .dng (M240, 50mm Summilux-M ASPH) and at 400% there is a very slight improvement in some text. What is not 'very slight' is the change in file size - from 24Mb to 103Mb! Yes, the benefit is marginal and is visible only in huge argument. But if I am printing very large (or cropping tight) then this increase in file size is worth it. It will be as needed basis. BTW, I just realized that effectively your camera gains MP after enhancing. It will be worth to compare the same shot between lower mp enhanced pic vs higher mp non enhanced. jmahto Posted March 29, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) Well, I went ahead and tried to compare lower megapixel (16mp Nex6) enhanced with higher mega pixel (24mp M240). Both with Leica quality lenses and same FOV. Nex6 (LR Enhanced > exported to same size as M240 pixel dimension) M240 (Un Enhanced) Both are very close. It is 200% zoom comparison from another picture. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! LocalHero1953 Posted March 30, 2019 Share #8 Posted March 30, 2019 I've tried it, and noticed the beneficial effect on fine details. In general though, for the majority of my images it is not worth the extra file size, nor the additional processing time. As with higher resolution sensors and corner to corner sharpness, I suspect this is a tool that is more useful for landscapes, buildings and interiors, but less useful for street and portrait. terrycym Posted May 12, 2019 Share #9 Posted May 12, 2019 I’ve tried it and all I get is a black image. Apparently this issue is shared with quite a few customers. Adobe’s QA appears to be deteriorating as this hasn’t been the first issue in the last 6 months
