dancook Posted March 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I did a sensor check before sending the Q off to a buyer today to find there is dust on the sensor. I bought it used from reddotcameras on the 8th September, but received it via DPD on the 11th September. Their warranty on used items is 6 months, today is 6 months from when I received it - so I should probably be good there. Need to wait 45mins before I can call them, is internal dust covered by warranty?

viramati Posted March 11, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2019 Leica Mayfair used to clean the Leica Q sensor for free but I don't if they do anymore, You should check with them
dancook Posted March 11, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted March 11, 2019 Ok will talk to red dot cameras first, also found out that it was 18th September DPD finally delivered the camera - I think I remember waiting and it never coming..
viramati Posted March 11, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2019 Ivor at Red Dot has always been very helpful
dancook Posted March 11, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted March 11, 2019 I spoke on the phone to Red Dot Cameras they said they would not cover dust on the sensor under warranty. They told me to speak to Leica Mayfair, they don't open until 10am
ricky1981 Posted March 11, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) 99% sure it's not automatically covered under the warranty but you might get lucky, fingers crossed!
dancook Posted March 11, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted March 11, 2019 Leica Mayfair are happy for me to take it in and they will clean it, unlikely to get it back the same day though - he quoted 1-2 weeks
nicci78 Posted March 11, 2019 Share #9 Posted March 11, 2019 You are lucky, in France, nobody has been trained to open and clean the Q yet. They have to ship it back to Wetzlar.
LocalHero1953 Posted March 11, 2019 Share #10 Posted March 11, 2019 What does it take to open a Q/Q2 and clean the sensor (out of warranty......)? Has anyone tried it?

I had problems with my original Q when i got dust on the sensor and a sticking shutter button and they just replaced the whole thing but shortly after that they introduced the free sensor cleaning

Yes, that works for getting rid of dust from the sensor, but how to open the camera? Edited March 11, 2019 by LocalHero1953
