Damo Posted March 5, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey guys, Just reading through a few threads regarding this topic and I still don't know the answer to a question: I was looking at buying 3 Leica SF60 flashes and it's SF C1 transmitter to light up my wedding receptions, however, reading this thread it seems silly of me to spend that much when the Nissan 160a's are the near enough the same as well as the Air 10 transmitter - I know I wont have TTL but I am cool with manual only. My question is: which Nissan version do I get - The Canon / Nikon / Sony or Fuji that will connect and fire properly to the hotshoe of the Leica Q /MM / M10? Thanks for any help in advance guys!! Advertisement Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Hi Damo, Take a look here Nissin i60A on the Leica Q-P / Leica M10. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leica Guy Posted March 5, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2019 I cannot answer your question, but here’s my experience. I regularly use the Leica SF-40 and I’m happy overall with it. Other times I use a Canon 600ex as Master and other 600ex’s as slaves. It requires they are in optical trigger mode and not wireless. Which means they must be line of sight. They must be in manual mode. No TTL. I would think that would not work for weddings. I use the same flashes on my Canon 5D3 along with the Canon wireless transmitter. They work great. Good luck. I *think* the answer is any of the above. In manual mode the only contact you care about is the center contact which triggers the flash. The center contact is the same on all flash units. That said, I've used a Canon flash and a 30 year old Tristar that only has the center contact on my Q and my M 262. Both work.
antigallican Posted March 6, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 6, 2019 It’s a difficult problem. A set of Leica flashes is so expensive. I use 2x nissin d700i (Nikon) plus a nissin wireless commander, all manual of course. I also have a Leica sf40 which will work fully auto, ttl etc from the camera contacts. The latter of course can be used to fire the nissins as slaves.
Tobers Posted March 6, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 6, 2019 I recommend you get some Yongnuo flashes. I’ve had 4 of them for years now, and they are rock solid, never fail, and functionally very rich. And they are much much cheaper than any of the main brands.
Jayk Posted March 6, 2019 Share #6 Posted March 6, 2019 To add to your options I use Lumopro LP180s (3), Pocket Wizard PlusX triggers (no line-of-sight required) with a Sekonic Flash Master L-358. The LP180s are powerful, controllable and very well built. There is also a LP180R with a built in radio receiver. Worth a look? Don't waste money on main brands with features you can't use.
