Doesn't seem all that logical:

Did Germany ship hoods to Canada for all their production?

Did Germany ship hoods to Canada only for their Americas distribution? (When I was with the company, Midland's products were shipped to US for our distribution without going first to Germany.)

The more we know, the less we know! ;)

There is another option- which is that someone lost the lenshood for mine sometime in the last 15 years, and bought another one! The nasty little metal pins on this one definitely need treating with care though, and I'm increasingly thinking that I'll do without it (I've not seem much flare, and I can't imagine that something like that does that much good anyway).

Particularly with the filter attached.

I wonder if there's an E60 rubber lens hood available? Perhaps with the crop factor, one could be screwed into the filter for use on the M8.

But then we'd get even more blockage of the VF.

  • 3 years later...

Hi,

I'm a leica newbie with a second hand M8 and bought separately 21 elmarit 12537 from a shop listed on ebay. It came with the hood and rear cap but not the original front cap. I went to the local leica shop and they haven't got any and said it is not as easy as one would think. so I have been searching on the web for a while and i can't seem to get an answer? Any help is appreciated...

Cheers.

Kwanie, welcome to the forum!

Have you checked DAG? He often has caps for discontinued lenses.

Also, check with Leica. When a product is no longer current, caps and the like are sometimes available through the parts department.

I have that lens, got it mint boxed with everything that came from the factory. Front cap is standard Leica E60 snap cap 14290 with the spring-loaded buttons. It fits with a filter just as well. AFAIK available currently, any Leica dealer can order one, or try calling Dave Ellwell in Allendale (if you're in the US or Canada). Or you can try KEH for used ones.
