marknorton Posted July 23, 2007 Share #21 Posted July 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting that the .CIM file is dated 11 June which suggests the finalised code has been subjected to some extra final testing before release. I'm not a DMR owner but it will be interesting to hear how it works out. What would also be interesting to know is whether this release was grudingly done by Imacon to draw a line under the DMR or whether Leica are finally getting their own feet under the firmware table. Advertisement Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Hi marknorton, Take a look here DMR Firmware 1.3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
salvi Posted July 23, 2007 Share #22 Posted July 23, 2007 Yep and I've downloaded it and put it on my DMR. The screen images are now OK and that awful colour cast has gone on the LCD, I have only tried a few images in RAW as that is what I use and they look great with Auto exposure, 100 ISO. The camera histogram is showing acurate exposures so far. Next step is to try a 4Gb card...if I can find one that is FAT32 and not SDHC. Weather in England is atrocious today, so will give it more use later. Thank you Leica! Hi Someone of the german form has mentioned a yellow cast, can you confirm that..? paulmoore Posted July 23, 2007 Share #23 Posted July 23, 2007 have download and shot a few frames off on 1.3 no yellow cast, as mentioned above, and no amber red of old.. screen looks neutral on Auto light balance, all is good so far.. I am pleased with leica.. I would like to start seeing some shots of all those foots in the big mouths from the naysayers. I guess leica saw my post a while back about not doing this update and giving me a break on the future r10..damn. paul moore
jlancasterd Posted July 23, 2007 Share #24 Posted July 23, 2007 Just got e-mail from Leica . confirmed the 23rd for 1.3. Have fun folks Got it - loaded it with no problems (it *does* take the full 2 minutes to install) - shot 4 trials outside (dull but bright) and inside (energy-saver fluorescent bulbs plus diffused daylight). Am now viewing them in CS2 - first impression is that AWB now seems to work well and that 'chimping' images seem to come up faster. Will play more and report. Interestingly, both 1.1 and 1.2 have now disappeared from the Leica website...

paulmoore Posted July 23, 2007 Share #26 Posted July 23, 2007 I went out and shot a white wall, it looked nice and neutral grey on my ittybitty screen, walked inside, put sd card in computer.. looked at it in bridge.. with no adjustments.. it looked nice and neutral..clean..no cast.. no apology needed.. there are alot of factors and I would only trust the word of someone who knows something about color management, color temp, and color theory.. lots of places to get confused.. and as I said, at what I shot at, it was clean.. white balance on auto, raw, 100 iso low sharp, low color sat, low contrast. no exposure compensation in camera on these tests.. I will let others do a more comprehension evaluation as I am interested in a pretty narrow use of the camera.. and am very satisfied. good lluck to all. Guest guy_mancuso Posted July 23, 2007 Share #27 Posted July 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great news folks , nice to see you guys finally get this after such a long wait. I knew it was out there all along but release on it was a tough call because they wanted it done right. So i hope this lifts the spirits of the DMR users and adds some added benefits. Now i miss my DMR
robsteve Posted July 23, 2007 Share #28 Posted July 23, 2007 Are there any obvious changes, other than fixes of bugs? Anybody try a high ISO shot?

jlancasterd Posted July 23, 2007 Share #30 Posted July 23, 2007 Are there any obvious changes, other than fixes of bugs? Anybody try a high ISO shot? My first impression is that interior shots at ISO 800 under fluorescent lights contain less colour noise than with 1.2 - I would welcome confirmation from others. robsteve Posted July 23, 2007 Share #31 Posted July 23, 2007 My first impression is that interior shots at ISO 800 under fluorescent lights contain less colour noise than with 1.2 - I would welcome confirmation from others. I just shot a series of indoor, incandescent lit, with firmware 1.1 and 1.3 using all the iso speeds. My first impression is the screen may still be a bit warm on the DMR with 1.3. I always thought this problem in 1.2 was related to certain DMR, as some users never noticed it. The red clipping warning on the info screen seems to be back were it belongs, not going off too early like with 1.2. I didn't see anything new in the menus, so 1.3 is probably just a bug fix of 1.2 with some improvements on the colour noise. If I recall correctly, 1.2 had more noise than 1.1 when shooting at 800-1600iso. I will know soon enough once I load the files into lightroom in a few minutes. rosuna Posted July 23, 2007 Share #32 Posted July 23, 2007 The size of the DNG files is the same?
robsteve Posted July 23, 2007 Share #33 Posted July 23, 2007 The size of the DNG files is the same? Yes, the file size seems to be slightly larger. The 1.1 was 19,853, the 1.3 19,919.
robsteve Posted July 23, 2007 Share #34 Posted July 23, 2007 There seems to be improvements on the 1600iso files. Here are the files and crops into them. The files were all processed in lightroom with no changes. The camera was on AWB with incandescent spots lighting the bed. The color seems accurate. cmb_ Posted July 23, 2007 Share #35 Posted July 23, 2007 After 20-30 snaps with 1.3 the Auto WB does seem better. File size is 19,929KB with 1.3 (was about 19,863 with 1.1) As Rob stated, I also see nothing different in the menu but it does seem to scroll faster, not sure on that though. Metering on my R9/DMR combo seems different. It appears I need to underexpose (camera set on M) some to get the correct exposure. Difficult to tell because it is raining here pretty hard so this may not be the case at all. Color noise seems improved with ISO 800 & 1600 but I cannot verify this for certain yet. robsteve Posted July 23, 2007 Share #36 Posted July 23, 2007 Here are a couple comparisons. The color seems to be a bit less vibrant, but accurate on the 1.3. rsolomon Posted July 23, 2007 Share #39 Posted July 23, 2007 colors appear right on , monitor colors look good to me - no cast, dmr monitor zooming might be working a little faster, higher iso also seem cleaner / less noise. in the menu i notice a resize option - i can't remember if that was there .... AWB looks better .. so far - GREAT !
cmb_ Posted July 23, 2007 Share #40 Posted July 23, 2007 The Resize was there before. It shows as white text now rather than black text like all the others and I am not sure if that was the case before. I never used it.
