I recently purchased a 1951 vintage 85mm f1.5 in beautiful condition. When I've tried to mount in on my M4-P the focusing cam on the lens does not line up with the roller on the cam on the bodies focusing lever. On the 85mm, I've noted that the lens surface the focusing cam rides on is not a 360 degree circle like most lenses, it's a small tab about 10mm wide with what I would describe as a ramp leading up to it. I've tried two different adaptors, one doesn't get it far enough to connect and the other one gets it close enough that the cam roller touches the "ramp" part.

Has anyone had any similar problems and did using either the genuine Leitz adapter for a 90mm or one of Voigtlanders adapters work.

I'd really like to use the lens since the iiif it came with is in need of rebuild before I can shoot with it.

Thanks much in advance.

Hi & welcome,

Just dug out my Summarex and it has an original 9cm Leitz adapter - see attached pictures. Hope it helps.

FWIW, I have had similar issues with other vintage lenses when using the "wrong" adapters.

The lens focuses perfectly, the tripod mount is where it should be (right in the middle) on all my M bodies. Not sure what you mean by "focus tab", since there is none present on the focus ring. However, I noticed the focus marks on the barrel are not aligned right on the top middle but slightly tilted to the left (about 20°) - perhaps so that they are easier to see when using the finder ? Not sure, but I have a few other vintage LTM lenses that show the same characteristic and it's not an issue in practice.

I see. Well, focus is perfect with my copy of the lens with that particular adapter and all my M bodies - so I guess the answer to your question is 'yes'. Unless your lens has other issues, it should work with yours too.
