dpattinson Posted July 20, 2007 Author Share #21 Posted July 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The normal answer to any loosening screws (anything from a F1 racer to a motor bike) is "Loctite". That's all anyone needs to solve this problem. Just bought a used Ver.2 MATE, and will be keeping a close watch on the need to break out the solution That's the name I was thinking of, thanks
Advertisement Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Hi dpattinson, Take a look here Just picked up a MATE for my maate... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
4X5B&W Posted July 20, 2007 Share #22 Posted July 20, 2007 David, Loctite comes in various grades, that are either more or less difficult to remove. You wouldn't want to go with the version that is almost impossible to remove, that would negate any further work on the lens.
cmogi10 Posted July 20, 2007 Share #23 Posted July 20, 2007 I know the W stands for Wide in the WATE but what does the M stand for in MATE?
marknorton Posted July 20, 2007 Share #24 Posted July 20, 2007 I assume it's "Medium Angle", coined by Tim Ashley, if I recall. Not especially appropriate, it's a brand of condom here in the UK... The "Long Angle Tri-Elmar", is, as its name implies, not expected any time soon.
stevelap Posted July 20, 2007 Share #25 Posted July 20, 2007 Thanks Jono, I've been leaning towards the 75 cron and that's almost certainly what I'll choose. I don't have the WATE by the way, and will probably opt for a 21 or 24 when the time comes to complement the MATE at the low end. Regards Steve
edlaurpic Posted July 20, 2007 Share #26 Posted July 20, 2007 Interesting title for this thread, as I already have the MATE and use it for travel situations, in particular. My other mate, my wife, is now using and M8 and she is getting her own set of lenses, but also used many of mine. Now she has decided that the MATE is her favorite, so we are now looking to buy a second one, if anyone knows where a nice used one, second version, hopefully coded, might be. stevelap Posted July 21, 2007 Share #28 Posted July 21, 2007 Thanks David, although It's listed as sold this morning. There seems to be good general availability on used 90mm's, both cron and elmarit, wheras 75's are thin on the ground.
