girphoto Posted July 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all Last week I ordered and received my JM shade for my CV15 from John and a new 39mm cut filter fom my camera shop Allan Camera in Penn The shade is everything that I thought it would be (and called a friend telling him that he has to order them 15 & 12 ASAP). I put the new filter in place and I was ready to shoot. I have been using it now for three days straight (along with two other cameras) and I am finding that the inside of the shade seems to sratch very easily and that the outside rim chips very easily. Now Please understand that after shooting as long a I have, a little scratch or chip does not bother me (but usally after more use than three days). I would be interested if any other users of the shade system have had the same problem. All in all I the lens shade product is a great product and I would not hesitate to order another one for my CV12. I have attached three images shot with the CV15 and JM shade with 39mm cut filter. ISO set at 160 comp-1/3 and WB set to cloudy. Thanks Gary Gary I. Rothstein, Photography

stunsworth Posted July 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2007 Losing the coating on the inside of the hood or on the rim would worry me as this is bound to decrease the flare resistance. Do you know if the coating is painted or anodised?

Do you know if the coating is painted or anodised? Hi Steve, No I don't. If I get a chance later to night, I will try to post a photo of the shade. I also am getting ready to send an e-mail to John and ask for his help on this. Gary Gary I. Rothstein, Photography
AGeoJO Posted July 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2007 Gary, Are the shots taken with Leica IR cut filter or another brand, like Heliopan or B+W? They show quite a bit of cyan shifts in the corners....

AGeoJO Posted July 18, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2007 Oh, OK, those are jpg files straight from the camera, huh? They are great shots, BTW. I envy you that you were able to get so close to the space shuttle.... Sorry for the off-topic question and thanks for your explanation.
jlm Posted July 18, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) the shades are made of aluminum alloy. the interior of the shade is bead-blasted for a matte finish, then the whole thing is black anodized, inisde and out. The matte surface is tough but can take scuff marks, like dragging a fingernail across it. Usually wiping the surface with lens cleaner will restore the matte condition. as far as denting the rim, the thickness was arbitrarily kept to 1/16", in the next edition, I will increase that to .093. I should add that while these adapters can be bulked up, the overall strength is going to be limited by the rather delicate setscrew pressure/connection onto the petals of the C/V lenshood and the adapter is sticking considerably out there. I would be hesitant to let multiple cameras around your neck bunmp into it. jm
