Yet another 20th century artefact.

It's at risk of turning into a grim typology.

Do they still have phones in?

I remember them - especially in London - being papered internally with adverts for ladies of the night.

Kiwimac.

No, not these in Smithfield meat market, central London. These have notices on them that they’ve been preserved for future generations but the phones have been stripped out. They end up as much loved (and of course photogenic) artefacts with no real purpose any more.

Some in the city are still papered with adverts for the ‘night economy’.

Outside the cities they’re often repurposed as mini art galleries, defibrillator units or community book repositories. Some have been sold off to businesses as coffee or souvenir kiosks but this only seems to work in very busy inner city areas.

Are they still used as public WC’s at kicking out time? 🤣

I think it’s best to hope not but assume yes…

These plastic pissoirs pop up in many city centres before the weekend and disappear on Monday’s.

I photographed a string orchestra party given for some friends who are moving back the U.K. I play bassoon, not a string instrument.  But I also play the camera, so they invited me. B&W: The room had mirrors, and when temptation came, I gave right in. B&W: MM Monochrom, Voigtlander 35/1.2 Nokton. Color: M10-P and 35/1.4 Summilux ASPH non-FLE.
