leonpro Posted July 16, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted July 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's just tiring to see the rarity of it and having to try and trust to purchase from eBay. I don't see any US dealer carry it. I think the same is true in the UK. Â 1. Why is it only offered in Japan until now? 2. Is it supposed to be offered for Panasonic only? Or is it going to be one of those limited edition products? Â Any info or links to interview on the lens would be appreciative. Thanks.
Advertisement Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Hi leonpro, Take a look here Leica D Summilux 25 F/1.4 - will this ever be available worldwide officially?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rjans Posted July 16, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted July 16, 2007 A free translation of what is written in Leicabeimeister shop: the lens is manufactured and distributed by Panasonic. I read in other forums that some people were able to purchase this lens but it was sold out very quickly. Â Best
leonpro Posted July 16, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted July 16, 2007 Ah, thanks. Anyway, if Leica does not produce the lens and Panasonic does - they should be able to build them faster. I wonder if Leica/Panasonic will be developing more variety of D lenses in the very near future.
spylaw4 Posted July 16, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted July 16, 2007 Blink and you miss it! AFAIK B&H in NY do sometimes have it in stock - but only one or two and they go like greased lightning. You just have to monitor constantly. Â I pounced when I had the opportunity recently. Â Here's the L/P lens Road Map, of which the 14-150 or the 50-150 and the macro look interesting. Â As far as other lenses are concerned, here's the Olympus Road Map, and of course there's Sigma and a raft of legacy lenses especially Leica R series. leonpro Posted July 16, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted July 16, 2007 Great link. Thanks! The 50-150 is interesting as it fills the gap of the current stock lens. 14-150 is a good all-in-one, but at F3.5 it's not *my* ideal choice. Â The 25 F1.4 is what I want. spylaw4 Posted July 16, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted July 16, 2007 Update: On dpreview there's a short thread on this topic. Someone spoke to Panasonic US and apparently the lens is back-ordered and the next shipment is due in 6-8 weeks. Â It's worth the wait IMO.

spylaw4 Posted July 16, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted July 16, 2007 I have a feeling that that could well reveal the 14-150 as the 'kit' lens.
leonpro Posted July 16, 2007 Author Share #11 Â Posted July 16, 2007 I have a feeling that that could well reveal the 14-150 as the 'kit' lens. Â Could very well be as an all-around lens. However at F3.5, I would opt for 14-50 F2.8 and 50-150 F3.5 combination as higher zoom I could very well use more outdoor and a slower aperture. But the 14-50 they could have aimed to drop it down to F2.0 and that would have been perfect!
