maddav Posted July 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've just purchased an ISBOO adapter (the old Leitz 9cm) and the golden part (on the side of the adapter ring that is in contact with the camera mount) is quite dirty. Should I clean it? Which product should I use?
Advertisement Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Hi maddav, Take a look here cleaning a crewmount adapter before using it?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
papimuzo Posted July 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2007 1. Yes 2. Ethanol or as some member indicate vodka which is the same with some water added:D Hope this help. Marcel
lars_bergquist Posted July 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 15, 2007 This is correct, but after cleaning, you should give the adapter a VERY thin coat of acid-free petroleum jelly (a.k.a. Vaseline). The lens and camera bayonets must always be lightly lubricated, and come from the factory thus. The old man from the Age of Nose Grease
maddav Posted July 15, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted July 15, 2007 Hi Lars, hi Marcel, Thanks for the tip. How should I measure the quantity of vaseline and how should I apply it on the ring?
lars_bergquist Posted July 16, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 16, 2007 There should be only a really light FILM of lubricant, not enough to risk smearing and vagrant particles of it in unfortunate places! The old man from the Age of Hoppe's No.
maddav Posted July 17, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted July 17, 2007 I couldn't find ethanol in my neighborhood and thus bought a small bottle of vodka (37.5%). It is a total failure: a dry cotton swab turns out to be significantly more efficient than one impregnated with vodka. Is it because the vodka is not strong enough? gravastar Posted July 17, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe the easiest way to clean the adapter would be to apply a coating of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) leave for say an hour and then wipe it off. maddav Posted July 18, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted July 18, 2007 Could I use isopropyl alcohol instead? I have some at home.
