I noticed in the Digilux 3 Brochure mention of using Leica R lenses, with an adaptor.

What are the pros and cons of this combination?

Would it be worthwile making a Lecia R lens the main lens for the camera?

Do the Leica R lens have to have ROM contacts?

Which focal lengths and lenses work best in this combination?

Has anyone got any sample photographs to show?

Thanks.

1. Good lenses, more compact than the standard lenses. Manual focus and manual aperture setting only, but the camera can be set to Aperture Priority. There is manual focus assistance in the viewfinder. Obviously no OIS. Unless you want to spend a lot a wide angle prime is not available.

2. Maybe, if you wanted a fixed focal length and did not want to fork out for the 25/1.4 or one of Sigmas. There are 24 and 28mm Elmarits at reasonable prices.

3. No.

4. Depends on what you want to do, but remember that the focal length is effectively doubled.

5. Look here: Photo forum - Nature & Wildlife - there are others around in the Digital Forum also from some months ago.

Hello Calvin,

Using the 100mm macro worked well for me.

Take a look at this thread in the Digital Forum from a couple of weeks ago:

R adaptor to Digilux 3

Best wishes,

Graeme
