Yes, I had one of these, about the same colour, no stripes. Is this one an "S"? What a fun ride.

Yes, great car in very good condition.

Not sure if it's an "S", I don't know if there are any external clues other than a red S badge on the back.

Thanks evikne, I didn't know this site existed, very useful 🙂

I don't know anything about cars. So I often use similar sites to add some info when I post my own pictures of cars. 😄

Better post another photo before I get sanctioned for too many words not enough photos 🙂

This 1966 Mini Cooper S finished 3rd in the notorious 1966 Monte Carlo Rally before all three Minis (1st/2nd/3rd) were disqualified for a dipped headlight infringement.

Oh, I made a tiny error regarding the Mini, well tiny if you regard an around 30 year difference being "tiny"!

It was in the 1960's through into the 70's that I was deep into my Mini phases, ( and Landrovers too then at the other end of the scale ). I started off with my first car being a used plain vanilla 850cc Mini in / around 1966 but the bug bit hard and in the next few years I went through four or five others ending up with a Mini Cooper S that was "breath'd" on by a specialist firm up in Finchley called Speedwell, ( I think Graham Hill was one of the owners, at least he was there a lot when I bought my cars in ). That bored out, twin weber'd 1275 Cooper S was wicked fast, great in the days when you could put your foot down, long gone now. My Mini days ended with a Mini Van that did Trojan country-time work first in Wales then finally in Co. Cork Eire hauling well over it's legal weight for a couple of years when I was building a house there..........We buried it at sea off of a beer fueled friend's trawler somewhere North of The Fastnet, ( another rash move that would see me locked up these "environmentally aware" days, but it was a really fun day and a great goodbye for the old girl )..........Loved Mini's

Yes, spot on:

GRX 5D - Racing History

1966 Monte Carlo Rally (1275cc) - Paddy Hopkirk / Henry Liddon - 3rd, but disqualified.

Love the story of your Minis btw.

Last 35mm Lux v2/Mini photo for now.

1967 Mini 850cc.

Think what it would be worth today - in any condition. Just the chassis plate would be a few thousand GBP's!

Well maybe so, if at the time you could actually find a chassis plate through the rust and the holes..........actually I maybe wrong but I seem to remember that the mini's never had a chassis per se.......The body shell was the "chassis" with front engine, transmission, drive-train and wheels all one unit and the rear just being the rear wheel assemblies bolted to the body "chassis".........Could be wrong, it's a long time since I worked on them but I am sure there's a number of gear-heads here that would know!

Actually that van's "funeral" was unique, couldn't have been a better farewell.
