grahamc Posted October 6, 2024 Share #2588 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) I was using film more or less exclusively for a while. But recently fortunate to be using a v1 Summilux, I'm finding that on digital the lower contrast of this single coat lens (versus my late v2 titanium) makes the results quite indistinguishable from film after post edit. M10-D, 35mm Summilux v2 @ f/1.4 i love all your snaps of my old stamping grounds, Soho, the Coach and Horses with Norman of London's "rudest Landlord" reputation, richly deserved by the way, the "French" with Gaston and my agent's office at that time just round the corner on Greek Street and then the Vine when we were flush now and again or maybe after house at Buck's Bar at Rules on Maiden Lane.........but in fact the French was the real office. I am sure I'd barely recognize the place now but anyway thanks for all of these Robbie.....Cheers!

As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Graham, for over 5 decades I have shot with a Leica M film body which I carried with me all over the world and discovered for myself that these small cameras and lenses are "Reportage" cameras, meaning taking a small portable yet high quality camera and small lens with us wherever and everywhere we go to capture the most intimate and or substantive moments in ones life. Since the introduction of Leica's digital bodies it feels to me that the reportage element has been lost somewhat with many new Leica shooters looking to see if they can capture the very best in absolute image quality with an M10, M11 series body, yet a Hasselblad X2D in digital or say a 503 CW in film will out resolve any Leica M kit in film or digital all day long yet the Hasselblad cameras and lenses are not a small carry anywhere discreet reportage camera kit. You my friend continue to remind me at least how a Leica M body, film or digital, is the very best Reportage body ever made. You constantly show how to capture life's moments as they happen wherever you are and often with a humorous life engaging element. Personally I am unable to travel and explore as I once could due to an unfortunate life changing injury and to make the most of that Reportage element and strength contained in a Leica M kit, but you continue to remind me of the core meaning of the Leica M body and small lenses, and I at least feel we all are the better for it as you share your photographs for us all to enjoy. Thanks very much Mark, that's extremely kind And I couldn't agree more with the comparisons of the higher Megapixel M and recent direction.. I agree the latest bodies have perhaps lost their way a little bit. The muscle of the tech specs means they naturally stray into areas where M (even a high megapixel one!) is perhaps not the best tool (let's say versus X2D). And conversely, the output of older generations lower MP sensor (or of course film) is better suited to this type of work IMO Hugely appreciate your generous feedback, Thank you !
