My wife at f1.4. She is so sick of me taking pics of her. I made her pose for 4 different aperture tests😂

Stopped down. Boring shot but shows the diversity of this lens. It can do everything from vintage to modern. So much more interesting than a perfect lens from f1.4 to f11

This is the only lens I've sold and re-bought multiple times. Just got my third copy now - a 1986 Canadian. I had read that they moved to Wetzlar that year, so it must be one of the last of the Midland copies. Nice optical condition, and some quick tests on my Sony "film scanner" camera look good. Now for some film...

Any real difference between the 80s and 70s lenses? My previous copies were all early to mid 70s. This new one has the redesigned front lettering.

Mine is also a 1986 Canadian. I’ve found it to glow and flare like a champion wide open but I’ve not used an older version to compare. I have seen some images that have significantly more glow in this thread though so I think there is just a lot of sample variation with these lenses.

I think so too. My last copy was a mid 70s that was quite well-behaved. I wouldn’t mind a little more dramatic flair/flare. :)

I agree! All it takes is two clockwise clicks for it to disappear so you may as well have it all wide open!. This lens has 3 personalities for me. Wild at f1.4, vintage at f2 and close too and more conventional from f2.8 without it being too modern at any aperture.

I thought I’d try the pre asph with my M8u so I took it out all happy. Turned it on and the battery was on its last ounce of breath. Took two mundane shots before it copped it but they look really organic imo. This camera never fails to impress me.

M10-D, 35mm Summilux v2, left unprocessed as I like the slightly overexposed glow of the dog's face.

I picked up a Chinese 12504 copy, and unlike the last one I had, this one requires that if a 49mm filter is used, it has to go in backwards. I've read that that is how the original works, but the last Chinese copy I had was far more forgiving and let me put in a 49mm B+W forwards without hard vignetting. This one vignettes with the filter installed backwards. I found a used Leica Series 7 filter, so hopefully that solves it.
