Self-Portrait

Over the past few months I’ve gone on some crazy spree of trying different lenses for different systems and basically shelved my MP. I damn near sold it and my 35 Summilux. But I just couldn’t do it… I don’t know what it is about this camera or specifically this lens but I can’t seem to part with it. Even if I feel like I take better photos on other systems, there’s just something about this camera, this lens. So it won’t be going anywhere I guess. Woe to my bank account.

Is there another M mount lens that compares to this one in character? It seems the only one I can think of is the 50mm f/1 noctilux, but I can’t bring myself to spend 5k on one… maybe the 50 lux pre-asph? Any other lenses you feel capture the personality this one has? Would love to hear yalls thoughts.

ICE, 2022. Maybe at f/2 or f/1.4. Tri-x pushed to 800

I’m just about to pull the trigger on one of these and have to say that this thread is ‘the resource’ for the 35mm Summilux pre asph. It was so helpful reading through the comments and looking at all the lovely images.

I pair this lens religiously with the 50:1.4 v3 Pre-ASPH .   I also have the 50:1 E58 noc but IMHO that lens is completely unique and doesn't pair up with any 35 as a 'match'.   The pairing I just mentioned are a very well matched in match in contrast/colour rendering and overall render, aside from FL specific things such as compression.

Another vote for the 50mm Lux pre-ASPH. This and the 35mm Lux pre-ASPH are the only two lenses I currently own and I think they make a perfect pair. I've also previously had the 50mm Noctilux f/1, which can also fit, but the Summilux is so much smaller and lighter and easier to carry around on a daily basis.

Forgive me if posting an eBay link here is verboten, but just wondering if anyone here has purchased this (or similar) and made this modification to their v2 pre-ASPH Summilux?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/386319046984?hash=item59f268d948:g:NdMAAOSw2tBk8xzB

Stainless “steel rim” front ring allowing for e43 filters.  Somewhat confusing size as the original steel rim takes an e41, but possibly an elegant option to leave the bulky clip on hood at home while still having a multitude of filter options.
