shirubadanieru Posted March 4, 2021 Share #285 Posted March 4, 2021 My steel rim is back from getting its grease replaced. I love the rendering with the M9M, perfect fit. Both shot wide open, click on the files to see higher resolution if needed. Welcome, dear visitor! CLA was just to change the grease (something recommended doing by masters here in JP every 3 to 5y) so no impact in quality. The lens is clean & clear though

shirubadanieru Posted March 17, 2021 Share #300 Posted March 17, 2021 Cross posting this here A friend asked me how the Summilux Steel Rim compares with the 8e when shot at F2, so I took a couple of shots with it at F2 with the M9M. Sharing two below. My quick thoughts: The steel rim appears to be as sharp as the 8e in the center of the frame at F2, but with a different Bokeh rendering. I love the 8e Bokeh too but my preference might actually go to the Steel Rim Bokeh : ) Also, the Steel Rim glow wide open pretty much goes away at F2 in most situations. Overall I’d say generally this lens is best used between f2 to f8 for everyday shots, and f1.4 for night shots or when you want to shoot magical, dreamy portraits. Overall, my pick is the Steel Rim between these two lenses, but the summicron 8 elements does have the advantage of focusing down to 0.7m (by the way the steel rim seems to focus a bit closer than 1 meter, I’d say about 0.9m or 0.95m). Hope people find this quick observation helpful. Welcome, dear visitor!
