odyocu Posted July 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had tried the Summilux ASPH and liked it sooo mucchh. My dealer found the previous one that writes the full Aspherical on the lens, the hand made one with 2 aspherical surfaces. Actually I ended up buying this quite cheap and regard this more as a collection item rather than for using (BTW I'm a camera collector). In excellent (like mint) shape with perfect focusing and with all original boxes papers etc. People usually believe that this is superior to the last version. I would like to hear your comments because I feel the opposite. The new one may be very slightly better with my M8. The new one has only 1 asph element and it was surprising for me to note this. carstenw Posted July 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2007 Erwin Puts and everyone else I have heard of who have tried both claim that they are essentially equivalent. Some have had a better experience with one, some with the other.
innerimager Posted July 12, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2007 I only have experience with the new one, and find it to be a spectacular lens.....Peter
thrid Posted July 12, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2007 From what I understand the performance is the same. Puts tested both and came to this conclusion. The biggest difference being that the ASPHERICAL has hand ground ASPH elements and the ASPH version uses stamped elements.
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 12, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 12, 2007 The ASPHERICAL handles better IMO. Reason: It has a rim AND a tab to focus the lens, whereas the ASPH. only has a tab. You get used to both versions, but I like to have the option - for absolute finetuning - to grab the rim ... Bets
