T00m Posted August 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Best weather for our trip last weekend. Schneeberg is located near Vienna and not very known to tourists outside austria. The Schneeberg is the most north and eastbund mountain in the alps which is higher than 2000m. The train ride starts at Puchberg at 577m to the top at 1796m at only 9,8km Track length. View from Station "Baumgartner". The Steam Train is just operated every Sunday. Back in my childhood they did all traffic with six steam engines. (1992) View over the Schneeberg high plateau. (Leica Q build-in Pano) Coal from poland always give off some good smoke The Steam engines are sloped to have an even waterlevel in the boiler during the lift-ride up. They need to push the train from the back due to the high pitch of the track (For security / brake reasons). A edgeways video I did (crappy iphone) about two years ago where one could see the steam engine needs to work very hard to push the two waggons up: https://youtu.be/3Uz6xDmgPTE Always very amazed what dynamic range the Q delivers with DNG's.
