mtwo Posted July 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did a couple of rudimentary searches and came up empty for the info I need. Specifically I need to know the filter size for screw in filters for the 90mm Canada made Summicron. The one I have is a heavy old guy with a pull out hood. The id ring screws out to reveal the filter threads. Looks to be about 60mm but need to confirm. Any help appreciated. John

telyt Posted July 12, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2007 if the 90 cron is an R: Either E55 or Series VII I use a 54mm-to-55mm step-up ring on my old 90 'cron R so that I can use E55 filters on it.
mtwo Posted July 12, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted July 12, 2007 I don't have an R lens, don't have an R Leica. Do have this old Summicron. There appear to be two ways to screw in a filter. One is into the threads on the ID ring the other way is to remove the ID ring and expose the threads which hold that little rascal. Perhaps the best way is to head to the big city with lens in hand and see what the remaining decent photo shop has to offer. John
dlove5 Posted July 12, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 12, 2007 If you have a screw mount or M bayonet Summicron 90 and it has a serial number under 2,800,000 then it most likely uses a 48mm filter. No need to remove id ring. That might be keeping the built-in shade from sliding off. I don't have mine in front of me right now. I bought a 48mm to 49mm step-up ring since I already had a fair number of 49mm filters and that size seems to be more common.

mtwo Posted July 12, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted July 12, 2007 Thanks, Italo. I still need to make a trip south to the big city to see what I can find for a step-up ring. When it comes time to get a couple of IR cut filters they may as well be big enough to use with a couple of lenses. Still can not interfere with the lens hood though. doubice Posted July 13, 2007 Share #9 Posted July 13, 2007 John, If you indeed have the original Canadian built 90mm Summicron with the built-in hood, the correct and final answer is......48mm. You do not have to drive south to the big city; 48mm to 49mm step up rings are often available on eBay - just do a specific search. Best, Jan
