I’m trying to replace a dented hood lens on my 50mm Summilux f/1.4 asph lens and can’t seem to unscrew it. I’ve tried various small screw drivers and none have loosened it. does anyone know what kind i have to use? I tried contacting Leica but nobody has gotten back to me about this. Thanks.

I'm not an expert here, but I don't think the 50 f/1.4 ASPH's sliding hood is held in place with "screws" at all. I don't see any in external pictures.

It is free to slide in and out, with a "stop" like the stop on a dresser or desk or file drawer, that keeps the drawer from pulling all the way out and fallng on your feet.

It is the "stop" - which is probably a ridge or rim around the front edge of the main lens barrel, underneath/inside the hood (but may be protruding screw heads themselves - not visible without the hood removed) - that has to be removed. At which point the hood may easily and freely "extend" right off the front for replacement.

My suspicion, looking at the cutway view of the SX 50 f/1.4 ASPH here: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/50mm_f/1.4_ASPH_Summilux-M

...is that the whole front of the lens (externally, from the ring with the aperture index dot forward; internally, the first three lens elements) is threaded on the back, to screw into the rest of the lens, and that that whole unit has to be unscrewed. At which point the hood may just slide off backwards, or there may be access to additional small "screwdriver" screws inside to release it.

I could be completely wrong, of course.

If you can post a picture of the screws you are trying to turn, that will help.

The hood and the piece that it slides over both come off as a unit. You will need to purchase high quality jeweler screw drivers that really fit the screws properly. Mine came loose a few times and I finally used a bit of low strength loc tite on them. if this is the case with yours you may need to apply a bit of heat (carefully).

Here's a photo of the hood (from leicastoremiami.com) to get an idea of the workings
