BrutalImage Posted July 9, 2007 Share #1  Posted July 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Simple question: Aperture or Lightroom for the Mac?  IPhoto has performed admirably but is groaning under the weight of a rapidly growing 17,500+ image library.  I am looking to upgrade and am torn between Aperture and LR. Some people say Aperture is "free form" and easier to use.... LR is more "rigid" in the way its set out and has to be used.... Adobe has a better RAW converter in its software.... and LR is faster & suffers fewer spinning beachballs.  Constructive comment would be appreciated  (Main equipment: Leica M8, Intel IMac 24" 2.3Hz 3gig RAM, Mac Book Pro 2.3gHz 3gig RAM) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Having dabbled with both before settling on Lightroom, I have serious doubts about what "others" have told you. I find Lightroom to be more intuitive and much faster, with fewer spinning balls. The demand on system resources from Aperture is one of the things that turned me off to that program. You'll be up and running in LR faster than in Aperture, too, which is strange given that Apple made its name in easy to use tech. Aperture strikes me as a good deal more opaque than need be. One further (big) advantage, LR is seamlessly integrated with Photoshop. There's my two cents, anyway. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
