Greetings!

I just received a D-Lux (tape 109), and have the following questions:

1.  does a new memory card needs (or best) to be formatted when first insert to the D-Lux, before use it for real shooting?

2.  on my D-Lux 5 before, there was a setting that I could have the back screen has only the grids (two lines horizontal, two lines vertical), but without any data or other info intrude on the screen.   Is the new D-Lux (type 109) the same of it has to be all those symbols, data figures on the screen at the same time with the grids?

Thank you in advance for your assistance...

2. I usually use the Grid as Ir assists composure

For the D-Lux (109), how do you set the function to have only the grid, but has no other data or figures on the screen??

Hello yst,

fortunately both are independent from each other.

1. With DISP-button (rear side, bottom right) you can choose "display layout" (p. 62 of the manual). One of the choices is "without information".

2. With "MENU---Custom---Guide Line" (p. 65 of the manual) you have the desired choice.

Hope it helps

Thank you Andreas,

On the D-Lux 109, can you have both the "grid with info", and "grid without info" both exist, conveniently call up (changeable) by pressing a button, just like on the D-Lux 5, which I could press one button on the back of the camera, the "with info" and "without info" screen comes out alternatively...

Hello yst, the D-Lux also has this facility: by pressing the DISP button several times you can advance through the various display modes. See p. 62 of the manual. I'd strongly recommend downloading the D-Lux manual in order to get familiar with the many possible features of this highly versatile camera.

You can download the English version from here:

https://us.leica-camera.com/Photography/Compact-Cameras/Leica-D-Lux-Typ-109/Downloads

Scroll down to the lower part with the "Instruction" files.

May I also ask what should I set for the "Live View Mode"?    There is a "60fps", and "30fps", I wonder which one should be set for?

Hi yst, for explanation see the again manual, p. 43. Just notice that this setting will apply only to the LCD screen. The viewfinder always uses 60fps. I'm using the default setting with 30fps but since I use the display only for menu settings - for taking pictures only the EVF is used - the "Live View Mode" has no priority for me.

In addition to the D-Lux manual (free download from Leica) you should have a very close look onto this Panasonic LX100 guide:

https://www.amazon.com/Photographers-Guide-Panasonic-Alexander-2015-12-21/dp/B01FIW6BTS

(the LX100 is technically identical to the Leica D-Lux 109)

A general remark: because the D-Lux is my only camera since its purchase in November 2014 I'm using it extensively for all my photographical activities. Therefore, I'm highly interested to get acquainted with all of its possibilities which consequently results in reading the appropriate booklets. I'm of course aware that the average user - not only of cameras but of all technical devices - prefers NOT to read manuals but just to use them impulsively.

Thank you !  The  Viewfinder is always at 60fps already, only the back LCD is changeable, therefore it is better to set to 30fps for battery saving?   Is it because EVF needs high fps to have a "stable look"?
