ChrisC Posted July 7, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted July 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) There have been interesting contributions in other threads about M8 Jpegs having less sharpness compared to their companion RAW files. Â The M8 has created a black hole for me whereby I need new software and a much faster Mac., so I thought I would play with a chosen in-camera Jpeg. with the less than optimum processing that I have. I resized in Photoshop CS [Alien Skin is on my shopping list] so it would print at c. 44 inches x 30 inches [112 cm. x 76 cm.] @ 180 DPI. With some hefty unsharp mask applied the file looks very convincing to me when viewed at the screen assessment size of 50%. Whilst Jpegs are fast for editing, and getting a 'feel' of how I should shape the final image, Raw is my natural first choice file. So I am surprised that this Jpeg file should look as fine as it does at a size greater than I have ever printed. Â My suspicion is that these files take a great deal of unsharp mask sharpening. I wonder what you think. Anyone printing big with some feedback on large quantity sharpening specifically [and yes I know the David Adamson thread - it's the one which pushed me into the M8 financial black hole]. Am I wishful thinking and imagining the high degree of sharpening that M8 files [even lowly Jpegs] will take? Â There's no point posting the example crushed down to internet size.
