Hi Matt,

I always use UV filters on my lenses, including the 28mm Elmarit. None of my lenses suffer from vignetting because of that, and the lens shades supplied with all the lenses still fit. I've always fitted the filters because it means I never have to touch the actual surface of the lens for cleaning or whatever. Mine is a B&W filter but I've never had a problem with any brand.

I have put UV filters on my lenses that I use for close quarters street and documentary photography - 21/3.4, 35/2.0 and 28/2.8 - and have seen no vignetting from any of them as a result.

The stock lens hood of the Elmarit will still fit; take it off, screw on the UV filter then reinstall the lens hood and you're good to go.

The current production 28 Elmarit does take a 39mm size filter; as far as I know, so do the previous Elmarits.
