A miller Posted April 20, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The website compressed my less than 1000KB files to very small res files. For example, I upload a 900KB file and the site posts it as a 99KB file. Why the compression?? Edited April 20, 2018 by A miller

A miller Posted April 20, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted April 20, 2018 Perhaps the following link is useful: Why does the forum shrink my photos and adds ugly artifacts? BINGO! Thanks very much. This caused me to go back and look at my Lightroom export settings and I noticed that I inadvertently had been asking for 1280 on the SHORT side instead of the long side, hence the compression by the site. Fixed now and I appreciate your time.
ianman Posted April 20, 2018 Share #5 Posted April 20, 2018 Adam, you may get better results by optimising your files before uploading. Not that I write "optimise", not "compress". JPGs contain a lot of information that is not critical and can be removed without loss of quality. You have a number of options: Online services https://tinypng.com/ or https://kraken.io/ Desktop applications: http://www.jpegmini.com/ (paid desktop application). or on MacOS https://imageoptim.com/mac (free desktop application)
