AGeoJO Posted July 4, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) IR seems to rear its ugly head again in the (digital) photography world. Apparently some Canon users speculate that IR could also throw off the AF system of the new Canon 1D Mark III. Whether it is real and if, to what extent remains to be seen, of course. The dust hasn't settled there. Well, that brings us up to the point. In the beginning we resisted Leica's suggestion to simply put an IR cut filter on our lens to get rid of the magenta. We cried foul and that was against the beliefs of not using any filter at all since no matter how well made, filters might degrade the image quality. We were Leica purists at best at that time. Now, we are grabbing IR cut filters and put them on our lens like there is no tomorrow. Dealers can hardly keep up with their supplies. Are we changing our opinion? I have heard hints that not only IR cut filters do not degrade the image quality, they actually increase the color saturation. Real, hype or have we completely resigned to the "must-have-filter" way of M8 photography now? Just a fruit of thought.... Have a nice 4th everyone, at least here in the good ol' USA!
