mgarde Posted July 3, 2007 Share #1  Posted July 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased a D-Lux 3 a few weeks ago and love the camera, but I am having problems with corrupt files. The images appear OK in the camera, but upon export (either by card reader or direct from camera) I get error messages of various kinds, depending upon the software I am using (I've tried a few different software programs). I am shooting RAW, and both the JPG and RAW files have the same problem. The Adobe Elements RAW plug-in is installed on the supplied software, and some RAW files are imported without problem, so that is not the issue  In Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, the error message is "The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the organizer." (For both RAW and JPG). In another image reading program, the error message with respect to the JPG files is "Not a JPEG file: starts with 0xc7 0x9c".  The problem occurs with different SD cards as well, so problems with the cards doesn't appear to be the issue. It appears to happen only after the first ten or so images are taken.  Before I send the camera back to Leica I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar problem or can offer thoughts. Thanks very much.  Maureen

Thanks very much....Maureen  Maureen, I just had a similar problem on a single card with my M8.  1. First, are you formatting the card IN THE CAMERA before each use. My recommendation would be to use a card reader to transfer the files to your computer, and then NOT to erase or delete them under computer control. When the files are copied and suitably backed up, then Format the card in the camera in which it will be used.  2. Now, I always do this, but had a case where the card reader saw the files as corrupt. I could still see them in the camera, so I used the usb adapter cord to transfer the files to the computer. This was successful -- AND -- (I always shoot both dnf and hi-res jpg) all the files (in sets of two) were TIFF files. I can see these as tiff's and I changed the filetype of one to dng. I was able to see this file as a raw file (in C1).  Admittedly, it looks funny (it's small on the screen). It is the correct size (M8 dng's are 10 MB).  I suggest you take a card without anything on it that you want, Format it in the camera, take some shorts, and see if the card reader will transfer them properly.  In posts about this earlier, some have complained of Sandisk II and III with Mac's. A new reader solved the problem. I use the Sandisk ImageMate 12-in-1 reader. Others use the 5-in-1. This is a good reader and uses usb-2.
mgarde Posted July 4, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted July 4, 2007 Thank you so much for your suggestions, which appear to have solved the problem! It looks like the card reader may have caused the corrupt files. I had been transferring to my laptop via a SanDisk usb card reader. I belatedly remembered that my desktop PC has a built-in card reader that accepts SD cards. I've transferred images by that route with no problem. Â Thank you so much again, and have a happy Fourth!
