glenerrolrd Posted July 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now that used M8 s are turning up used on several of the buy/sell forums....I became interested in how Leica plans to deal with warranty claims . Some of these are exceptional deals especially if its being sold with a full range of lenses. It was my understanding that Leica s official position is "warranties are not transferrable" . I confirmed this today with NJ . Further "Blank Cards " means nothing..the warranty is based on the date of sale and must be supported by an invoice/bill of sale form an Authorized Leica Dealer. I have asked this question to several different company representatives ...always getting an unofficial reply that M8 repairs will be taken care of. Having the original bill of sale will be important ..soon as the original M8 s begin to go out of warranty. While I certainly understand the desire to not commit to transferrable warranties , this drops the desirability of a used M8 and its fair market value. My point of view is that Leica should reconsider this policy as it negatively affects the value of existing M8s .

pemayeux Posted July 2, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 2, 2007 I don't know about the M8, but I bought a 50/1.4 lens used. I couldn't get a far off object to coincide in the rangefinder patch so I sent it to Leica NJ for repair. They sent it to Solms for repair. I got a letter back from Leica NJ that it was being repaired under warranty. It's taking a while but I can't complain - I just hope it's fixed when I get it back. glenerrolrd Posted July 3, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted July 3, 2007 Your experience sounds familiar....it seems that Leica is in fact repairing most M8 related items and newer lenses without charges. Lenses are generally not the problem...its the electronics that are a concern ..without the warranty..makes picking up a used body really questionable. Heads up on the rangefinder patch..its normally the body ..but not always .
