reynoldsyoung Posted December 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) My SF 26 fails to flash at all. All the functions of the flash seem to be alive and well...TTL, power, etc. Batteries are hot. But, no flash. Wondering if the hot shoe is dead. No response at all on the Q. Any thoughts for the frustrated??
Advertisement Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Hi reynoldsyoung, Take a look here The SF 26 on my Q. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Leica Guy Posted December 18, 2017 Share #2 Posted December 18, 2017 Do you have exposure bracketing selected. That defeats the flash as I remember.
reynoldsyoung Posted December 18, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted December 18, 2017 Many thanks....bracketing is not set. Arg! Was hopeful!! Will run by the Leica Store today and try another flash.
Leica Guy Posted December 18, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 18, 2017 Many thanks....bracketing is not set. Arg! Was hopeful!! Will run by the Leica Store today and try another flash. Double arg!! I have not tried other modes to see what does not allow the flash to operate. Are you in PASM? Flash mode ON. I just worked through the entire menu. I don’t see anything obvious that should disable flash. Hopefully the Leica store expert will find something simple. FYI, I had a SF-26, but sold it and upgraded to the SF-40. The 40 is a better overall flash and uses AA batteries which I prefer. Good luck!
reynoldsyoung Posted December 18, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted December 18, 2017 I am in PASM, Flash mode ON. On my way to the Leica Store today. Thanks so much for all that effort. Probably a bad SF 26. It did fire once this morning...totally over exposed the image. Sick puppy I think.
reynoldsyoung Posted December 19, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted December 19, 2017 Well, when an SF 26 spends too much time in a camera bag and not in use (I rarely use it), the connectors that actuate between the hot shoe mount and the flash portion of the unit can corrode/oxidize a bit. By tilting the head of the flash several times up and down, this corrosion will wear away and, voila, the flash is firing as good as new. The contacts between the hot shoe mount and the upper body of the flash are apparently "slider" type contacts that need to be manipulated occasionally to keep the contact free of corrosion or oxidation. So, there! Thanks for all the help. We are back!

reynoldsyoung Posted December 19, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted December 19, 2017 Yes...exercise is a good thing for the SF 26. Sadly, I don't take him out enough....sort of like myself!!! Merry Christmas to you all and a VERY good shooting '18!!
