John McMaster Posted December 11, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) My 180mm has started to not move the focus ring much, it is not the usual AF motor failure. If I do a rough focus then the AF will fine tune, but it will not do that from a wrong focus point..... Any ideas, it is cold here currently but it is not affecting any other lens. john

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted December 11, 2017 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2017 John I shot my S in Japan recently in minus 3 degrees. The only significant problem I saw was battery life sucks with the S in the cold. As for your lens issue maybe it’s just the start of a AF failure but from what I remember with my 3 failures was it was instant and a squealing noise to go with it. erlingmm Posted December 11, 2017 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2017 No reason not to send it in. The AF mechanism may be twin: one for micro-adjustments, one for longer focus changes. Anyway sounds like something you cannot live with. Get it upgraded, and achieve peace of mind.
djmay Posted December 11, 2017 Share #5 Posted December 11, 2017 Did it change behavior after removing the lens and remounting? Jesse Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
John McMaster Posted December 11, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted December 11, 2017 I have retried a few times with no difference, my AF failures have all been instant. I will contact Leica UK, but not send the lens off until the new year... john
